Comment on Power NI Raising Prices by 18 Percent

22 May 2013

Speaking after the shock announcement by Power NI that they are to raise the cost of electricity for small business customers by 18% Colin Neill, Chief Executive, Pubs of Ulster says that it’s time to ‘Switch off Power NI’.

“We are very concerned about the announcement by Power NI to increase their cost of electricity by 18% for small business customers. This will have a severe direct impact on our members at a time when they have had to reduce costs and already suffered from a loss in profits.

A substantial increase of this size is not something that a small business such as a pub can easily deal with or has budget for. In fact, there is little consultation and no warning that this hike was coming down the track and our members will be tuning into the news this morning and extremely worried about their future.

From today, we will be urging our members to move to more competitive electricity suppliers and will be actively working with them to facilitate this switching process immediately. It’s time to Switch off Power NI”.
