DEMONSTRATE YOUR COMMITMENT TO WOMENS SAFETY - SIGN THE WOMENS NIGHT SAFETY CHARTER NI

Hospitality businesses are now signing up to the Women’s Night Safety Charter NI, to help support the campaign to End Violence Against Women and Girls.  By signing the charter and making the bespoke ‘Listen, Learn, Lead’ training available to you and your staff, you can be proactive in helping women to feel safe at night.

We all work hard to make the hospitality industry in Northern Ireland a safe place to relax and socialise. However, in our society too many women still feel unsafe when travelling, working, or going out at night. The Women’s Night Safety Charter NI is aimed at prioritising and ensuring the safety of women and girls and to help them feel protected when walking home from work or enjoying a night out.

The Charter is supported by a bespoke training package developed by White Ribbon NI to assist organisations in successfully implementing its pledges. The ‘Listen, Learn, Lead’ toolkit provides information, resources, and guidance on potential actions to create safer environments for women across all venues and workplaces.

Signing the charter will also include your support for the “Seven Commitments” within it and that you will undertake the necessary actions listed in each of those commitments.

The Charter is applicable to everyone involved in the evening economy in Northern Ireland, with organisations and businesses pledging to:

  • Nominate a champion in their organisation / business who actively promotes women’s night safety.

  • Demonstrate to staff and customers that their organisation takes women’s safety at night seriously, for example through a communications campaign.

  • Remind customers and staff that Northern Ireland is safe but tell them what to do if they experience harassment when working, going out or travelling.

  • Encourage reporting by victims and bystanders as part of communications campaigns.

  • Train staff to ensure that all women who report are believed.

  • Train staff to ensure that all reports are recorded and responded to.

  • Design public spaces and workplaces to make them safer for women at night.
