WiFi Scam hits Belfast Pub Friday 5th August

05 August 2011

A Belfast pub got a phonecall this morning from someone claiming to be working on the pub's phone lines, asking for their wi-fi key.

The member of staff who took the call asked no questions and gave out the key. By the time this was picked up on by management a piece of software had been loaded onto their computers under the guise of a Windows update which would record keystrokes/ passwords etc. This is obviously a huge concern for any business carrying out online banking etc.
