Pubs of Ulster at Stormont Closure Powers & Penalty Points

03 November 2010

Colin Neill, Chief Executive of Pubs of Ulster outlined to the Social Development committee, chaired by Simon Hamilton, that the organisation was in support of Minister Attwood's intention to introduce powers of closure to the PSNI, and a penalty points system for repeat offenders.

However, with North Belfast publican Eugene Cassidy at his side, Mr. Neill was quick to point out that 'the devil is in the detail'. Mr. Neill was keen to point out the need to self regulate, and therefore reduce the burden placed on the PSNI and the courts for resources. This was met with agreement from the entire committee.
