Pubs of Ulster & The Scottish Licensed Trade Association Demands Meeting With Sky

04 August 2010

Pubs of Ulster and The Scottish Licensed Trade Association have united to demand an urgent meeting with Sky.

Both organisations have complained a number of times in the past about the level of prices imposed by SKY on the public house and hotel sector. The latest increases announced have again incensed our members and the Pubs of Ulster has again written to SKY demanding a meeting to discuss these increases and other issues the trade has with the pricing policy of SKY TV. The letter highlighted that:- These increases have come at a time when the licensed trade is going through one of the most difficult times it has ever experienced. Whilst we appreciate all businesses are suffering from a recession, additional factors such as a expensive legislation, regulation and cheap drink promotions have hit the hospitality industry harder than other sectors. With pubs closing and all licensees looking more now than ever at their overheads and with increases of between 9% and 11% being added to their satellite service, many more are likely to withdraw their subscriptions.
