People 1st call for practitioners to help set industry standards.

10 August 2010

People 1st the sector skills council for hospitality is calling on head housekeepers, food and beverage managers, head receptionists and head chefs to help set the latest national occupational standards for these jobs.

National occupational standards (NOS) describe what an individual needs to do, know, and understand in order to carry out a particular job or function. People 1st want to interview the experts doing these jobs and update the industry standards. NOS form the basis of vocational qualifications and describe good practice in that area of work. Updating NOS is vital to ensure there is a full understanding of the skills and knowledge required to perform the jobs and they can be a benchmark for rewarding experience, knowledge and competence. So if you are an experienced practitioner in one or more of these areas and would like to share your expertise in helping to shape these Standards for the future People 1st would like to hear from you. Getting involved means approximately 30 minutes of your time for a telephone interview to discuss job roles and descriptions relating to these roles. Please contact Catherine Mawdesley 028 9044 7736 or email catherine.mawdesley@people1st.co.uk and a mutually convenient date and time can be arranged. Interviews will be taking place throughout August and September.
