Powers of Closure Commencement Announced

Social Development Minister Nelson McCausland has today decided to commence the 'Closure Order Provisions for Licensed Premises and Registered Clubs' from 10 December 2012.

"The Licensing and Registration of Clubs (Amendment) Act (Northern Ireland) 2011 (the Act) received Royal Assent on 29 March 2011.  The Act amends the Licensing (Northern Ireland) Order 1996 (the Licensing Order) and the Registration of Clubs (Northern Ireland) Order 1996 (the Clubs Order).

 

Article 69A of the Licensing Order and Article 41A of the Clubs Order makes provisions to allow the closure, for up to 24 hours, of licensed premises or registered clubs by the courts where there is actual or likely disorder. 

Article 69B of the Licensing Order and Article 41B of the Clubs Order makes provisions to allow the closure, for up to 24 hours, of licensed premises or registered clubs by the police where there is actual disorder.
