Illegal Shebeen Raided in Kilkeel

23 June 2011

Following the announcement that an illegal shebeen in Kilkeel has been raided by police, Colin Neill, Chief Executive of Pubs of Ulster and Chairman of the Northern Ireland Business Crime Partnership said:

“Pubs of Ulster has been at the forefront of the fight against illegal trading of alcohol across Northern Ireland and we are greatly encouraged by the decisive action taken by the PSNI to counteract such illegal activities in Kilkeel.

“This type of activity, which sees illegal traders depriving legitimate publicans and their staff of income and jobs, needs to be taken most seriously.  The illegal sale of alcohol needs to be treated for what it is, a crime that should be punished accordingly.

“We are very pleased by the actions of the PSNI and we look forward to the outcome of their investigation and hope it serves as a deterrent to those engaged in similar criminal activities.”
