Beer Duty Escalator hits 45000 signatures

18 May 2012

The industry petition calling for the end of the beer duty escalator has hit more than 45,000 signatures — a rise of 11,000 — after a concerted push from the Publican’s Morning Advertiser.

However, the petition needs to hit 100,000 to force a debate on the issue in the House of Commons — and there is still a way to go.

Two weeks ago the petition had fewer than 34,000 signatures. But publicans and their customers have been backing the campaign, which is supported by major trade associations as well as the Campaign for Real Ale.
