BARCLAYCARD GIVES HELPING HAND TO PUB TRADE

02 August 2011

The representative body of the pub trade in Northern Ireland, Pubs of Ulster, is offering members exclusive deals on card payment services through its new partnership with Barclaycard, it was announced today.

Through the unique partnership, Barclaycard will offer members both machine rental and card processing rates that are more competitive than those offered by the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB).  As well as helping members save money, the system offered by Barclaycard will also help pubs manage payments as simply, securely and efficiently as possible.

Announcing the partnership, Colin Neill, Chief Executive of Pubs of Ulster said:

“Pubs today are faced with an increasingly large number of overheads in the day to day running of their business and this includes the rental of chip and pin machines and card processing costs.  We are committed to working alongside our members and providing them with the support they need.  By teaming up with Barclaycard we will be able to help relieve some of this pressure on the industry by offering members the best rates from one of the world’s leading providers.”

The pub industry today is increasingly reliant on card services with more customers using cards to purchase drinks and especially food.  Pubs are also an integral part of Northern Ireland’s tourist offering and it is therefore essential that pubs are well equipped to process payments in multiple currencies.

Andy Ferguson, representative from Barclaycard in Scotland and Northern Ireland said:

“The last couple of years have been tough for businesses of all sizes and the signs point towards these challenging times continuing.  Barclaycard is committed to helping businesses through these difficult times by making the services we provide as advantageous as possible.  By working with Pubs of Ulster and its members we hope to not only provide preferential rates that will help publicans save money, but also a level of service that helps their business grow and develop.”

The new partnership with Barclaycard is part of the expanding range of services offered to Pubs of Ulster members, enabling them to improve the competitiveness and viability of their business whilst delivering a quality experience for their customers.
